Make active uniform compulsory in all schools in England for pupils up to age 16 — 15 signatures. Status: rejected.
We call on the Government to introduce mandatory active uniform standards in all schools in England for pupils up to age 16, replacing unnecessarily restrictive clothing requirements with affordable, comfortable and inclusive alternatives and prohibit removal from lessons for uniform breaches.
Children & teens spend much of their life at school, yet traditional uniforms restrict movement, comfort & learning, particularly for pupils with SEND. Government guidance already encourages active uniforms, but schools can ignore it. Students are being removed from lessons over arbitrary appearance rules, losing valuable education. No child should be denied learning because of clothing. We want mandatory active uniforms, stronger SEND protections & an end to disproportionate uniform sanctions.
