Allow ILR applicants waiting over 6 months for a decision, travel & return to UK

Allow ILR applicants waiting over 6 months for a decision, travel & return to UK — 7 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

We call on the UK Government to reform immigration rules so that people awaiting an ILR decision for more than six months can travel abroad and return to the UK without their pending application being treated as withdrawn, subject to appropriate identity, immigration and security checks.

Additional details

People waiting months or years for an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) decision miss funerals, family milestones and essential medical treatment because travelling outside the Common Travel Area may result in their application being treated as withdrawn. We ask the Government to introduce a safeguarded travel-and-return mechanism for eligible applicants waiting over six months, while maintaining necessary immigration and security checks. Especially since the delayed response is not their fault.
