Ban the sale of second-hand power tools to prevent the resale of stolen items

Ban the sale of second-hand power tools to prevent the resale of stolen items — 10 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

We want the Government to ban second-hand power tool sales to help stop organised tool theft. Tradespeople face daily van break-ins, with tools worth tens of millions stolen each year. We believe removing the resale market would reduce thefts and protect workers’ livelihoods.

Additional details

Tool theft is a major threat to UK tradespeople, with vans broken into daily and high-value tools stolen, leaving many unable to work. Police and insurance data show tens of thousands of thefts each year, costing tens of millions of pounds. Theft from vans can cause severe financial loss through replacement costs and missed work. We believe removing the resale market would reduce van break-ins, protect tradespeople’s livelihoods, and disrupt organised criminal activity.
