Review housing banding to prioritise health and family needs — 8 signatures. Status: open.
We call upon the Government to review the current practice of housing allocation banding system to ensure that it properly considers medical evidence, health impacts, individual household circumstances & exposure to antisocial behaviour — alongside bedroom criteria — when assessing housing priority.
Currently, we feel that housing priority is decided mainly by bedroom requirements. This can overlook medical evidence, health impacts, mental health effects of overcrowding, and exposure to antisocial behaviour which we feel should be given equal weight. In our view, a home that harms your health or where you feel unsafe should not be considered suitable simply because it meets a bedroom calculation.
