Ban councils requiring additional medical evidence for disabled bus passes — 7 signatures. Status: open.
We want the Government to stop local councils requiring additional medical evidence from disabled people who have been awarded 12 points for the PIP planning and following journeys activity when applying for/renewing a disabled bus pass. People should not have to pay for a GP letter every time.
We think that having to jump through hoops to get a disabled bus pass is unfair to disabled people. They go through the PIP process to prove they need someone with them on journeys, then when they apply for a bus pass they can be told they don't meet the criteria and must provide further proof from a GP. This is an extra burden as GPs can charge for letters, and people may be required to provide new evidence, which can be every year. We believe people should not have to prove their needs again after a PIP assessment.
