Review animal welfare regulations to prevent cross-border puppy farming

Review animal welfare regulations to prevent cross-border puppy farming — 10 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

We call on the Government to take action to ensure that puppies are not being transported between different parts of the UK from irresponsible breeders, so called “puppy farms”. We believe a change to the law is needed to ensure there are no “loopholes” in the law.

Additional details

We call on the Government to amend the law to: 1. Mandate a point-of-birth handover, legally requiring all puppy sales to happen at the exact physical property where the litter was born making long-distance retail shipping illegal. 2. Prohibit local authorities from issuing separate, individual breeding licences to different corporate entities or individuals operating out of the same physical address/farm complex.
