Strengthen laws to hold housing association executives and directors accountable — 148 signatures. Status: open.
We call on the Government to strengthen laws holding housing association executives and directors personally accountable for serious or repeated failures, including independent investigations, financial penalties, removal from office and a formal right for tenants to request regulatory intervention.
Housing association tenants can face repeated service failures, poor complaint handling and prolonged disputes, with limited ability to hold senior leadership responsible. Existing regulatory powers may not provide tenants with meaningful accountability. Executives and directors should face independent scrutiny and proportionate sanctions where serious or persistent failures are established. Tenants should also have a formal mechanism to request investigations into leadership and governance.
