Require councils to vet, monitor and safeguard children placed with relatives or family friends under informal kinship care arrangements, as they do for children placed in unrelated foster care. Relationship status must never be a loophole that lets a council abandon its duty of care.
In our view, too many children placed with a relative or family friend are left unvetted, unmonitored and unprotected because councils it is a "private arrangement". Every child deserves the same safeguards. Relationship status must not be a loophole that puts vulnerable children at risk.
