We want the UK Government to press Syria on detained journalists and seek due process, protection from torture, access to lawyers, family contact and consular access.

Press freedom, protection from torture and the rule of law should be central to UK relations with Syria. We are concerned about journalists detained without clear legal grounds, access to lawyers, family contact or a fair process, and reports of torture and ill-treatment in Syrian detention facilities. We want the UK Government to raise these concerns with Syrian authorities, seek due process and protection from torture, and report on how they are addressed in UK-Syria relations.
