We call on the Government to establish a regulated adult-use cannabis market and a national cannabis and hemp strategy covering licensed production and retail, public-health safeguards, improved medical access, UK cultivation and development of a sustainable industrial hemp sector.

Additional details

Prohibition has not eliminated cannabis use. We believe regulation could enable age controls, product testing, clear labelling and public-health safeguards while reducing reliance on illicit markets. Medical cannabis has been legal on prescription since 2018, but access remains limited. A national strategy could also support UK cultivation, industrial hemp, research, jobs and rural economies, with tax revenue helping fund health, education, treatment and independent research.
