Legislate so criminal offences motivated by misogyny are treated as hate crimes — 21 signatures. Status: open.
We want the Government to recognise criminal offences motivated by misogyny as hate crimes in law, ensuring that crimes motivated by hostility or prejudice against women and girls are recorded, investigated and prosecuted appropriately, with stronger protections and accountability for perpetrators.
Misogyny is a widespread form of prejudice affecting women and girls across the UK, from harassment and abuse to violence and discrimination. Recognising misogynistic motivation in criminal offences as a hate crime would strengthen accountability and help validate women's experiences when they report misogynistic abuse or hostility, rather than dismissing it as harmless or insignificant. It would also improve reporting and monitoring, while making clear that hostility towards women is unacceptable.
