Extend the UK Jobs Guarantee to people over 25 years old — 15 signatures. Status: open.
Extend the Jobs Guarantee, on the same terms as now apply, to everyone on Universal Credit looking for work for 18 months, regardless of age. It should start on this basis in pilot areas with councils offering paid jobs doing work currently not done such as cleaning streets, parks, beaches & drains.
How it would work: after 18 months looking for work, people are offered a six-month job, up to 25 hours a week at minimum wage, funded by DWP. A health check and phased start come first, with supervision, training and a route into permanent work. Taking the job is expected, as it already is for 18 to 24s, with health or caring exemptions. The current 18 to 24 age limit means someone turning 25 before 18 months misses out.
