Introduce stronger national safety requirements to open-water sites so they have appropriate safety measures, such as fencing, secure gates, barriers, warning signs and life-saving equipment, with extra protection for children and vulnerable adults.
We want the Government to introduce clearer national requirements for assessing and protecting dangerous open-water sites. Where risks are identified, measures such as fencing, locked gates, barriers, warning signs and life-saving equipment should be considered. Particular consideration should be given to people with disabilities, autism and learning disabilities. Stronger preventative measures could help reduce tragic accidents and make dangerous areas safer.
