Include fortified plant-based milk alternatives in the Healthy Start scheme, so eligible families can use Healthy Start payments to buy suitable non-dairy milk instead of cow’s milk.
Healthy Start supports families to buy nutritious food and milk, but plant-based milk is not included. Families may choose plant-based alternatives for ethical, religious or dietary reasons, including allergies and intolerances. Fortified plant-based milks can provide important nutrients such as calcium and vitamin B12. We believe eligible families should have the same freedom of choice and be able to use Healthy Start payments towards fortified plant-based milk instead of cow’s milk.
