Retract the Planned Tourist Levy for UK residents — 7 signatures. Status: rejected.
We want the Government to require any overnight visitor levy in England to exempt UK residents. UK residents already contribute towards infrastructure through existing taxes. We do not believe they should pay an extra tax simply for staying overnight elsewhere in the country.
Domestic tourism supports local economies through spending on hotels, restaurants, attractions and shops, generating jobs and tax revenue. Hotel costs have already risen sharply, and an overnight levy would make UK breaks even more expensive, particularly for families and price-sensitive travellers. UK residents already contribute to infrastructure through existing taxes. We believe they should not face an extra charge simply for staying overnight elsewhere in England.
