Defend the volunteers of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution — 10 signatures. Status: rejected.
The UK Government should use all it's intelligence, investigative and law enforcement powers to identify and deal with all those involved in the recent intimidation and abuse of RNLI volunteers. It should remind all littoral agents of their duty to give succout to maritime victims.
The recent protests, involving ongoing abuse and intimidation, against the RNLI attempts to land rescued individuals, whatever their circumstances, at Eastney in Hampshire have set a dangerous precedent for charity volunteers as well as brought shame on us all. It is clear that the authorities need to deal with those responsible for what clearly goes beyond legal protest, and make it clear to ports and coastal authorities that they have a duty to accept people rescued at sea.
