Amend family law to include unwanted indirect contact within “molestation” — 17 signatures. Status: open.
We want the Government to amend the Family Law Act 1996 to expressly provide that “molestation” can include unwanted contact made through, encouraged through, or facilitated by a third party connected to the respondent, whether or not that contact is threatening.
The Family Law Act 1996 does not define “molestation”, leaving courts to interpret whether indirect contact meets the threshold. We believe the law should expressly recognise unwanted contact made through relatives, friends or other third parties where it is instigated, encouraged or facilitated by the respondent, even if the contact itself is not threatening. A clear no-contact boundary should not be circumvented through others.
