Introduce a New Homicide Offence for Abuse Related Suicide — 117 signatures. Status: open.
We call on the UK Government to introduce a new, bespoke criminal offence recognising cases where controlling or coercive behaviour and other serious forms of domestic abuse contribute to a victim’s death by suicide.
We believe the law must recognise when domestic abuse contributes to suicide and hold perpetrators accountable. The NPCC recorded 150 suspected suicides following domestic abuse in the year to March 2025. Evidence shows that this is not a marginal issue; it is a serious and growing area of domestic abuse deaths that requires a clear legal response, greater accountability and a route to justice for bereaved families. We believe families deserve a law that recognises the abuse behind these devastating deaths.
