Streamline driving theory test syllabus and reduce retake fees — 9 signatures. Status: open.
Cut the question count, drop non-essential numeric trivia, reduce retake fees, and update the syllabus to focus on practical safety instead of academic memorisation.
We believe that theory pass rates sit below 45% because the exam tests trivia over real safety. Safe drivers regularly fail it, which we think proves it measures memory over skill. 50 text-heavy questions can cause severe fatigue, penalising neurodivergent learners (ADHD, dyslexia). At £23 per attempt, repeated failures accumulate into hundreds of pounds in wasted fees. In rural areas with poor public transport, this financial and cognitive barrier restricts young people from getting the licence they need to work.
