Petition background

We want the Government to set up a National Skills & Service Programme (NSSP) for young adults to help support the c981.000 people aged16-24 (13% of that age group) who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

Additional details

We believe a National Skills & Service Programme would help young adults who remain outside employment, education or training for a defined period. This would combine structured service, accredited training and work experience, followed by a strong bridge into ordinary paid employment. It should include civilian routes as well as service-based options and should not be designed as compulsory recruitment into the regular Armed Forces. We believe public spending should do more than maintain inactivity.
