Government must regulate veterinary business practices — 68 signatures. Status: open.
The UK has no statutory regulation for vet practices. The Vet Surgeons Act 1966 regulates individual vet surgeons but does not regulate the businesses they work for. Most practices are owned by large corporate groups. Pet owners often face rising fees, reduced out of hours care, and up-front costs.
With most practices now owned by large corporate groups, pet owners face rapidly rising fees, reduced access to local out-of-hours care and significant upfront costs. We call on the Government to proceed with plans to introduce regulation of veterinary businesses, ensuring it includes pricing, standards and access to emergency care.
