We ask the UK Government to negotiate and seek a reciprocal healthcare agreement with the Indian Government that extends GHIC coverage to India and allows UK nationals to use their GHIC to access state-provided healthcare in India.

Additional details

Many UK residents travel to India to visit family, for tourism, work and other purposes. Unexpected illness or injury can result in significant medical costs. A reciprocal agreement could give UK nationals access to medically necessary state healthcare in India on agreed terms, while offering corresponding arrangements for Indian nationals in the UK. We ask the UK Government to begin negotiations with the Government of India, look into the feasibility, costs and benefits, and publish the final draft of the agreement.
