Fund investigations into severe period pain to diagnose conditions — 18 signatures. Status: rejected.
The Government should: Fund and require GPs and gynaecology services to properly investigate severe period pain that affects daily life, including access to ultrasound, MRI, and specialist referral to diagnose conditions like fibroids, endometriosis and adenomyosis.
Women and girls across the UK are told that severe period pain is normal and are offered painkillers or hormonal medication without any investigation into the underlying cause. This leads to years of suffering. Endometriosis takes an average of 8 years to diagnose. Fibroids are left to grow large, causing heavy bleeding, chronic pain, severe fatigue. We need the government to create and fund a clear pathway for those needing investigations. Also funding for diagnostics to reduce waiting times.
