Establish a non-repayable Chagossian Home Ownership Grant of up to £200,000 for every eligible Chagossian family with an adult applicant, towards purchasing an adequate permanent family home in the UK, without requiring the family to take on a mortgage or other debt.
Chagossians were forcibly displaced from their homeland in the Chagos Archipelago in the late 1960s and early 1970s, losing homes, livelihoods and communities. The housing consequences continue across generations. The Government should provide long-term housing support to help Chagossian families establish secure homes in the UK, recognising multigenerational households including parents and adult children over 18.
