Petition background

Introduce a simplified, compassionate visa route allowing elderly, dependent parents of British citizens, specifically parents suffering from ill-health and who have no remaining family members in their country of residence, to be able to enter and settle in the UK.

Additional details

We feel Current Adult Dependent Relative (ADR) rules are nearly impossible to meet. Parents may need long-term care that is entirely unavailable abroad. If a parent is frail, isolated, and struggling to live independently—but not completely incapacitated—they could be barred from joining their child. Paid care cannot replace family support. We feel it is cruel to force aging, lonely parents to live alone when British children can fully house and support them without public funds. We want a new compassionate visa route.
