Protect Cats: Make Stopping After Hitting a Cat a Legal Requirement — 21 signatures. Status: rejected.
We want the UK Government to amend the law so drivers who hit a cat must stop, check the cat’s condition and report the collision to police or an appropriate authority, ensuring injured or deceased cats can be identified and reunited with their owners.
Every year, countless cats are injured or killed on UK roads, yet drivers are not legally required to stop or report hitting a cat. Injured cats can be left suffering, while owners may never know what happened to their beloved pet. Cats deserve protection too. This petition calls for the law to be changed so drivers must stop, seek help and report collisions involving cats, preventing unnecessary suffering and helping reunite owners with their pets.
