Greater investment into integrated travel network bodies — 7 signatures. Status: rejected.
We want the Government to create a codified UK-wide transport body to manage devolved networks. This body should provide funding to expand integrated regional ticketing (like Swift in the West Midlands) and establish combined bus, train, and tram authorities for regions like Oxford and Cambridge.
Poor public transport restricts young people, and those without cars to their immediate areas, harming their work prospects. While HS2 will eventually help, it is years away and mainly connects major cities. We urgently need more state and private investment into devolved transport network bodies. Better funding for these regional networks will connect communities, reduce geographic isolation, and ensure all Britons have access to essential everyday transit.
