We want the Government to launch a review into its definition of anti-Muslim hostility, to ensure it cannot restrict or discourage lawful criticism, debate, satire or scrutiny of Islam, Islamic beliefs or political ideologies, while protecting everyone from hatred and discrimination.
The Government's definition is non-statutory, but we are concerned it could influence public bodies and institutions in ways that may discourage the legitimate discussion of Islam. We believe people should be protected from hatred and discrimination, but religious beliefs and political ideologies should remain open to lawful criticism, debate, satire and scrutiny.
