Fund the provision of back-up stair-access equipment, such as stair lifts, in homes where disabled residents cannot use the stairs safely or independently. This could allow them to move safely up & downstairs in an emergency if their usual equipment fails and ensure they are not stuck on one floor.
When essential mobility equipment such as a home lift fails, a disabled person who cannot safely use stairs may become trapped on one floor of their own home, potentially losing access to their bedroom, bathroom or a safe way out. Backup stair-access equipment could provide a second way to move safely between floors during an emergency. There should be priority consideration for those who live alone or do not have someone available who can safely operate the equipment.
