Commission a review of racialised and identity-amplified media targeting

Commission a review of racialised and identity-amplified media targeting — 26 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

Commission an independent review of UK media and online regulation and introduce statutory safeguards against sustained, disproportionate targeting of individuals where race, ethnicity or another protected characteristic amplifies media and online scrutiny.

Additional details

Scrutiny of Black and other minoritised people can become amplified by wider debates about their identity and belonging. Public and media scrutiny of individuals can become entangled with debates about race, disability and EDI. Accountability matters, but it must not become disproportionate public hounding. We need safeguards against serious cumulative and identity-amplified targeting.
