Petition background

Impose a statutory ban on the consumer sale, domestic personal use and unpermitted public display of fireworks from 1 March to 30 September. Make it a criminal offence and impose fixed penalty notices (FPNs) of £1,000 for breaching this ban.

We also call on the Government to mandate strict permits for summer firework displays, and to hold venues strictly liable—including for breaches by patrons on or adjacent to their premises—triggering mandatory licensing reviews and closure orders. Unregulated summer firework use can result in severe antisocial behaviour, distress vulnerable groups of people, terrify pets, cause livestock losses and create wildfire risks. This statutory ban and increased penalties could tackle antisocial behaviour, wildfire risks and animal distress.
