We want the Government to add congenital heart disease to the NHS medical exemption list so people who rely on lifelong, essential medication because of a heart condition they were born with can receive prescriptions free of charge in England.

Additional details

People born with congenital heart disease may need lifelong, essential medication to stay well and prevent deterioration, yet CHD is not included on England’s medical exemption list. Some patients require complex surgery, repeated procedures and even heart transplant assessment. They should not face ongoing prescription charges for treatment they have no choice but to take, especially when prescriptions are free for everyone in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
