Fund improved aftercare, support & advice for mothers after caesarean sections

Fund improved aftercare, support & advice for mothers after caesarean sections — 12 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

We call on the UK Government to fund improved post-caesarean aftercare across the NHS including standardised scar-care, abdominal rehabilitation, pelvic health & mental-health support. With caesareans accounting for around 45% of births (& increasing) mothers require consistent, specialist aftercare

Additional details

In our view, post-caesarean aftercare urgently needs improvement. We call for standardised scar care, abdominal rehabilitation, pelvic health and mental-health support. We believe this should be basic care following major abdominal surgery. With caesareans accounting for around 45% of UK births and increasing, we call on aftercare to evolve. “Rest and don’t lift anything heavy” is not enough now. Mothers deserve consistent, evidence-based support and properly trained professionals to improve recovery and outcomes.
