We want the Government to assess income on a household basis for single-income families to make their income tax contribution equal to dual-income families.
Currently, income tax is assessed entirely on an individual basis. This means a single-income family earning, for example, £60,000 pays significantly more tax and National Insurance than a couple earning £30,000 each. Despite having the exact same household income to support a family, a household is left with far less take-home pay simply because of how the income is split.
