We call for the UK Government to revoke authority from North Lanarkshire Council to approve the construction of AI data centres without the input of local residents or an environmental impact assessment. Residents and the landscape have already suffered consequences from the steelworks plant.

Additional details

Apatura have proposed plans for a 550MW AI data centre alongside a 650MW battery energy storage system in North Lanarkshire. This "campus" will span 160 acres, equivalent to 100 football pitches. The power used could supply over 1.2 million homes. If approved, these plans will go ahead without appropriate environmental impact checks or community consultation. These centres bring large amounts of noise and light pollution which has not been disclosed to locals. It's vital to save local water.
