Return Venezuela’s gold held in the Bank of England — 7 signatures. Status: rejected.
We call on the UK Government to secure the return of the over 30 tonnes of Venezuela’s gold — currently valued at approximately £3.5 billion — held in the Bank of England, to help fund earthquake recovery.
Venezuela’s June 2026 earthquakes killed thousands, with 50,000 still missing, in a country already suffering under severe economic sanctions. Venezuela has formally requested the return of 31 tonnes of its gold, held by the Bank of England, now worth approximately £3.5 billion given the rise in gold prices since it was frozen. Despite the evident and desperate need for recovery funds, the gold has not been returned. Thirty cross-party MPs, already back its return.
