More Training for GP's in regards to the deprescribing of Antidepressants. — 8 signatures. Status: rejected.
More up to date guidance and training is needed for General Practitioners in the UK for deprescribing antidepressants. Many health care providers seem unaware of the physical and mental toll tapering an antidepressant can cause. There needs to be more adequate support and compassion shown.
Approximately 8.8 million people take some form of psychiatric medication in the UK. This means statistically around 1.3 million will experience withdrawal, whether they know it or not. Doctors need to be made more aware of the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines and implementing properly calculated treatment plans for tapering off these medications to prevent long term harm to the patient.
