Self employed casual workers must be paid the same as those on PAYE — 7 signatures. Status: rejected.
Countless workers who are not on the Pay As You Earn scheme find themselves at a significant disadvantage. This imbalance is often due to commissions being deducted without considering the essential workers' rights of earning at least minimum wage, plus holiday pay.
The government has a duty to protect all workers and ensure fair treatment in employment practices. It's time for policymakers to step in and make certain that non-PAYE workers are guaranteed a fair wage. This means mandating that, after any commission has been deducted, workers must earn no less than the minimum wage and receive appropriate holiday pay. Legislative action needs to be taken to extend similar wage protections to non-PAYE workers as those available to their PAYE counterparts.
