Manchester should introduce a Manchester Living Cost Enhancement to better reflect the city’s rapidly increasing cost of living. Despite being widely regarded as the UK’s second city, salaries have not kept pace with the continuous rise in housing costs, rent, transport, and everyday living expenses
Many public sector workers, including NHS staff, provide essential services that are vital to Manchester’s continued success, yet their pay does not reflect the financial realities of living in such a high-demand city. Introducing a Manchester Living Cost Enhancement would help to recognise these challenges, improve staff recruitment and retention, and ensure that wages better align with the true cost of living in one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities.
