Retain the 5-Year ILR Route and Resume Individual Decisions on Syrian's Asylum

Retain the 5-Year ILR Route and Resume Individual Decisions on Syrian's Asylum — 12 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

We call on the UK Government to retain the five-year route to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for recognised refugees and immediately resume decisions on Syrian asylum claims, ensuring protection decisions are made promptly and in accordance with UK and international refugee law.

Additional details

Recognised refugees have built their lives around the established five-year settlement route. Replacing it with prolonged temporary leave would create uncertainty, delay integration and frustrate legitimate expectations. Syrian asylum claims should also be decided without unnecessary delay, based on each person's individual risk of persecution and current country evidence, as required by the Refugee Convention and UK refugee law, rather than by a general pause on decisions.
