Require all veterinary practices to scan a pet's microchip at first presentation or, in emergencies, once the animal is stable or after death. If the presenter is not the registered keeper, vets must verify their authority before non-emergency euthanasia, cremation or release of remains

Additional details

This petition is inspired by my experience after my missing dog, Willow, was taken to a veterinary practice by someone else. Her identity as the registered keeper's pet was not confirmed before her remains were released. I believe the law should require mandatory microchip scanning and ownership verification to better protect pets and their lawful owners, while ensuring emergency treatment is never delayed.
