The new PM Andy Burnham is likely to open up the North Sea for drilling of oil and gas. This will be catastrophic for an already nearly irreversible problem of climate change. Drilling for oil and gas damages ecosystems, murders animals, and makes our planet hotter.
The UK has seen its hottest day since 1976, with A provisional high of 37.7°C recorded at Lingwood, Strumpshaw Hill on 26 June, surpassing the previous record of 35.6°C set at Southampton in June 1976. This is already having catastrophic consequences on our wildlife, agriculture, and environment; with forest fires littering the UK and wildlife being affected, opening up drilling would only make the problems worse.
