Too hot to learn: Future-proof Britain’s schools.

Too hot to learn: Future-proof Britain’s schools. — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

We call on the Government to create a national fund to help schools stay safe during heatwaves through cost-effective cooling measures, including shading, ventilation, heat pumps and air conditioning where necessary. Every child deserves a classroom fit to learn in.

Additional details

The UK has already recorded temperatures above 40°C, and heatwaves are becoming more frequent. Many classrooms become hotter than recommended working temperatures, reducing concentration, affecting behaviour, worsening medical conditions and disrupting learning. Most school buildings were designed for a cooler climate and need adapting. Investing now will protect children’s education, improve staff wellbeing and create schools that are fit for the future.
