Ban Resigning MPs from Restanding — 19 signatures. Status: rejected.
When an MP resigns from parliament there is a costly process of a byelection funded by the taxpayer. If an MP who resigns from parliament intends to restand, we believe this is an unnecessary and avoidable expense. We would like the house to vote on barring MPs who resign from restanding.
When an MP resigns from parliament, a costly process of a byelection is triggered at the expense of the taxpayer. If an MP who resigns from parliament intends to restand, we believe this is an unnecessary and avoidable expense. Where there are cases of an individual restanding where they have not chosen to trigger the process (e.g. expulsion from party), this would not apply. We would like the house to vote on barring MPs who resign from restanding for a period of 2 years.
