Protect the Public & Emergency Workers from Exploitative Public Filming

Protect the Public & Emergency Workers from Exploitative Public Filming — 7 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

Change UK laws to stop content creators filming and broadcasting targeted citizens or traumatic events without consent. Criminalise public recording meant to humiliate, close GDPR loopholes, and establish a statutory right to one's own image.

Additional details

Content creators exploit public spaces to film and monetise citizens and public servants without consent. This leaves victims defenseless, even during traumatic events. For instance, emergency workers have been filmed suffering near-fatal injuries, only for the footage to be broadcast as viral entertainment. Families are forced to witness loved ones dehumanised online with no legal recourse. Parliament must update outdated laws, close GDPR loopholes, and establish a "right to one's own image
