We want the Government to hold a public inquiry into whether the current balance of risks and benefits of SSRI and SNRI antidepressants is acceptable, particularly in relation to long term use and under recognised side effects.

Additional details

Antidepressants can cause emotional blunting and sexual dysfunction, and have been linked to impulsivity, mania, akathisia, withdrawal symptoms, and suicidal or, in rare cases, homicidal ideation. These effects can significantly affect relationships and family life, and many patients report not being fully informed about these risks. Withdrawal symptoms can be mistaken for relapse, and prescribing patterns may not always align with NICE guideline NG222.
