MPs who act against the national interest or engage in corrupt activity can currently stay in post. We need an independent body with power to investigate MPs, order fair resolutions, and remove those found guilty of corruption or abuse of office.
We call on the Government to establish an independent oversight body, separate from Parliament, with power to: • investigate allegations of corruption or action against the national interest by MPs • reach fair, transparent resolutions, including removal from office where warranted • draw on legal and ethics experts, with public input into inquiries MPs should not mark their own homework. An independent body would deter unethical behaviour and restore public trust.
