Fund Tactile Maps in Accessible Toilets for Blind/Visually Impaired People

Fund Tactile Maps in Accessible Toilets for Blind/Visually Impaired People — 103 signatures. Status: open.

Petition background

Non-standard toilets in public places can cause anxiety for blind/visually impaired people. We call on Government to fund installation of low-cost Tactile Maps in accessible toilets showing room layouts, controls & safety cords on doors/walls to restore independence & create truly accessible spaces.

Additional details

Navigating public toilets shouldn't be a stressful guessing game for blind or visually impaired people. Non-standardized layouts can often lead to confusion, anxiety, and accidentally pulling emergency cords. We believe this will help make accessible toilets truly accessible. Public UK venues—such as schools, supermarkets, and transport hubs—should be funded to have installed low-cost Tactile Maps on toilet doors and walls. Featuring raised symbols, these maps would clearly outline layouts, controls, and safety switches, restoring independence.
