Individuals with Learning disabilities and Cancer diagnosis

Individuals with Learning disabilities and Cancer diagnosis — 8 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

I would like UK government to make it compulsory for those who have a learning disability to have someone with them eg carer/representative when they are given a cancer diagnosis; this is a highly vulnerable group in society, their rates of survival are low. They have shorter life expectancy.

Additional details

It should be made law that those with learning disabilities have someone with them when being given a cancer diagnosis. This could be a carer/representative/ professional. They need to be with them when they are given a cancer diagnosis due to this being a highly vulnerable group in society, their rates of survival being low, understanding issues, late diagnosis/misdiagnosis/diagnostic overshadowing. They experience a shorter life expectancy and face significant health inequities.
