Coeliac disease is not a choice: Make it bearable, Make stricter laws — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.
Many people think that eating gluten free is a choice or a trend, and for some it is. But for coeliac people there is a harsh reality. Even eating a tiny crumb of gluten can lead to serious consequences. There is no cure for coeliac disease so the only way to stay safe is a strict gluten free diet
Today, there are no strict laws to protect and prevent coeliacs from accidentally eating gluten. Restaurants can call food gluten-free while there is still a high risk of contamination. On top of that, gluten-free food is so expensive. Coeliacs have to pay on average an extra 35% a year for gluten-free food. That’s unfair because the disease isn’t a choice. This lifestyle isn’t a choice, but why are we being punished in price? We want cheaper gluten-free food and safe laws to protect us.
